Sucrer les fraises<\/em>\u00a0(to sugar the strawberries) refers to the movement your hand does when you actually pour sugar on strawberries, thus\u00a0meaning to have shaky hands. It is also\u00a0used to say that you are getting older, if not even senile. Not very glamorous!<\/p>\n But before you sucrez les fraises,<\/em>\u00a0you might go for the much more adventurous\u00a0and slightly kinky expression\u00a0aller aux fraises.<\/em> As wild strawberries are normally to be found in hidden places or forests, quand vous allez aux fraises<\/em>, you actually look for a quiet place to go for a roll in the hay. The quite colloquial expression sometimes also means that you are just walking around without aim. \nRamener sa fraise\u00a0<\/em>(literally: to reel in your strawberry) is a slang expression in which fraise <\/em>refers to\u00a0ones face or head and it applies to someone who interferes in a discussion without being invited to do so; more generally it means to growl, to grouch. The equivalent in English seems to be\u00a0to stick your\u00a0oar in<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>In aller aux fraises,<\/em> the little word aux<\/em> results from the contraction of the plural definite article (les) and the preposition \u00e0<\/em> (to, as in going to)<\/em>: \u00e0 + les = aux. Aux\u00a0<\/em>is set in front of masculine as well as feminine nouns.
\nIn singular it would be the form au<\/em> (\u00e0 + le). Ex: Aller au supermarch\u00e9.
\nBefore feminine nouns, \u00e0 la<\/em>\u00a0 should be used. Ex: Aller \u00e0 la pharmacie.<\/p>\n
